Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Petalwise ("we", "our", or "us") handles information in connection with the Petalwise mobile application (the "App").

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Account information: When you sign in with email, Apple, or Google, we receive your email address and (where provided) display name from the authentication provider.
• Plant data: Plant nicknames, species, watering schedules, photos, notes, and rooms you create are stored locally on your device.
• Photos: Photos you take or select for plant identification are stored locally on your device. When you use AI features, the photo is sent to our backend (or a third-party AI provider you select) for processing and is not retained by us after the response is returned.

Information Collected Automatically

• Crash and diagnostic data: We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous crash reports and stability metrics so we can fix bugs.
• Usage analytics: We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics (e.g. screens viewed, features used).
• Push notification tokens: If you grant notification permission, we may store a push token associated with your account.

How We Use Information

• To provide plant identification and health diagnosis features through AI services (Anthropic Claude by default; other providers if you bring your own key).
• To deliver watering reminders via local notifications.
• To diagnose crashes and improve app stability.
• To understand how features are used so we can improve them.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:

• AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI) — when you use plant identification or diagnosis features. The plant photo and a system prompt are sent for processing. See each provider's privacy policy for their data handling:

• Firebase / Google Cloud — for authentication, crash reporting, analytics, and Cloud Functions hosting. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

Bring Your Own Key

If you choose to use your own AI provider API key in Settings, your key is stored on-device using the platform's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore) and is never transmitted to our servers. Requests using your key go directly from your device to the provider you selected.

Data Retention

• Local plant data is retained on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App.
• Account information is retained as long as your account exists.
• Crash and analytics data is retained according to Firebase's standard retention policies.

Your Rights

You can:

• Delete individual plants from the App.
• Sign out of your account at any time.
• Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the address below.
• Disable analytics and crash reporting in your device's system settings.

Children's Privacy

Petalwise is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent version.
